Don't Stop Believin’
Rationale
The phrase ‘Don't Stop Believin’’ derives from the hugely influential song title by Journey. Its cultural significance has been repeatedly manifested by its use as the theme tune for The Chicago White Sox during the 2006 World Series, and more recently as the closing music to the memorably successful ‘Sopranos’ series. The vintage Caslon—style typeface, with its uplifting yet heavy quality, concomitant with its swashes, lends itself to this heightened cultural dynamic.
The original meaning of the song was that the fulfillment of young people's dreams cannot necessarily be brought into fruition in the place where they might have grown up. In other words, people’s destinies may lie elsewhere. However, in many ways the phrase itself has transcended its original lyric to be a semantic paragon of positivity. Philosophically speaking, ‘belief’ can be described succinctly as a ‘shot at the truth’, hence in this dumbed down, post modern age, ‘Don't Stop Believing’ is the ultimate secular expression of liberty, determination and above all—hope.
